Hey everyone! I wanted to start this newsletter with a brag. Cause we really have to celebrate our successes right now.

At the end of September, MMIX vended at a pretty big oddities fest called Seaside Oddities in Ventura. It featured tons of vendors, variety performers, really cool spooky photo ops, and in general was just the perfect way to kick off the Halloween season. Well, a bunch of circumstances came together such that AN ORIGINAL FUCKING MEMBER OF THE CURE, YES THAT BAND, bought a bunch of our artwork on tshirts. At the end of the event I also gifted him and his wife a postcard-size copy of our “Venice Vaporwave” piece.

Venice Vaporwave Talisman

Y’allll….I can’t tell you how meaningful it is to be able to have this type of interaction with a person who had a significant influence on who you are as an artist. I’ve had a moment or two like this here and there through life, and through my 16-year previous career in Middle Eastern Dance I had the pleasure of being in so many backstages with massively talented performers with multi-decade careers, even though they were only really niche “scene famous.” I’ve had a famous comedy run-in or two. I ran into Linda Perry on the street at the beginning of September. But this was such a big deal to me because I never thought it possible.

Our first VJ gig

MMIX has our first live VJ gig on Halloween, October 31st! We’re also so thrilled to be able to give back to our queer community a bit in this. Normally I’d keep posts like this to the MMIX Patreon news, but I thought it was worth the announcement because it represents the culmination of a lot of work that I’m finally going to be able to have a part in because I got to finally upgrade my tech! RSVP and support a queer event here.

Comedy stuff

September was a bit of a meh month as far as my comedy. I had a fairly significant audition that I did not make, which caused me to decide against submitting to a comedy fest that takes place at the same location/via the same producer for 2026. I’m going to take it as a message that my work is not at the place for people from Netflix and Hulu to even be suggested to possibly give a shit about me. However—I do feel that in the past couple months I’ve found greater purpose and personality as a standup, and that’s really important going forward. I know how to write real, authentic jokes about my life, personality and interests that are meeting the audience in a relatable place, even though I’m a feral queerdo, and I’m really proud of that. Many thanks to my comedy teacher Bobbie Oliver over the past couple years, and my many hours pounding the pavement at mics, including some brutally soul-sucking ones. I’d like to look at re-auditioning at Flappers before the end of 2025. I thought about submitting to another comedy festival in November, but I dunno.

At the end of this month on 10/25, I guess I’m technically going to be headlining but really only doing a feature-length set at a karaoke fundraiser in Burbank for my wonderful friends at WitchCraft Coffee. I might also be helping out with hosting/KJing a bit at this event while Rust takes care of sales at the MMIX table. Click the flyer above for a free RSVP!

On Friday the 24th, the day before, I will be performing in the Intrepid Comedy show, location likely in Alhambra. More info TBA closer to the show.

That’s it for now! Happy Halloween! Oh hey, can you reply to this and tell me something good that’s been going on with you? That’d be wonderful <3
